Your Live Contact & Coaching Hours
Explained
To attain your qualification, you’ll need to log live contact hours and coaching hours, as well as working through the learning platform materials. These hours are built into your course, with some flexibility over how to achieve them, so that by graduation, you’ll feel confident, capable, and fully prepared to coach.
What are Live Contact Hours?
Live Contact Hours are the time you spend in interactive HCA sessions where you learn, practise, and connect with others in real time. Examples include:
-
Weekly Core Live Mentor Sessions
-
Live Zoom Webinars
-
Coach Connect & Support Sessions
-
Coaching Clinics
-
Coaching Practice Sessions
-
One-Day Live Events
-
Three-Day Live Events (Diploma students only)
Live Contact Hours give you direct access to HCA trainers, guest experts, and peers, ensuring your learning comes alive beyond the coursework, and are part of the accreditation criteria.
What are Coaching Hours?
Coaching Hours are the time you spend actively practising health coaching, whether as the coach, the client, or even as an observer. Examples include: coaching practice in CORE Mentor groups, TRIPOD sessions, peer coaching, volunteer practice, and live event breakout sessions. Coaching Hours provide real-world experience so you leave the course confident in your skills and ready to work with clients.
How Will I Get These Hours?
Rest assured we’ve built the hours into your training programme. With multiple live sessions each week (including evenings and occasional weekends), it’s very achievable to attain your hours, even alongside full-time work. And there is so much freedom in how you do this too! You’ll receive a log to keep track of your progress, and the HCA team will guide you.
Core Live Weekly Mentor Sessions
When you join HCA, you become very much part of the family, and a central component of all our courses is the Core Live Weekly Mentor sessions. In these online sessions, you connect with a smaller group of fellow students on a regular basis, and are guided through the course by experienced Mentors who are experts in the fields of coaching, wellbeing and/or nutrition.

The Coaching Certificate and all four Pillars of the Diploma include 8-12 online Mentor Sessions, lasting 90-100 minutes. During these sessions you will be practising coaching with your peers, so you can also log additional coaching hours alongside the live contact hours.

Mary Walker - Head of Live Supervision
Coach, Connect and Support
Coach, Connect and Support Sessions (CCS), hosted by Mary Walker, are held 4-6 times per month; they are suitable for all students including new joiners. These sessions provide a valuable and rich opportunity for you to connect with fellow students, including those further on in their coaching training journey.

The format of these safe and supportive sessions varies: some offer the opportunity to practise coaching skills and coaching tools, others are Student Spotlights, during which our student body can share their personal story (and hone their presentation skills), and during others, you will hear from expert speakers on a host of fascinating health and wellbeing topics including neurodiversity, trauma, exercise, mindset, corporate health coaching, and much more. The speaker sessions are all recorded for you to catch up on in your own time should you wish to.
Coaching Clinics
Coaching Clinics offer a unique opportunity for you to observe a Master Coach at work. Come and join the monthly 90 minute sessions to watch Marcelle Dubruel, HCA's Senior Health Coach, coaching one of your peers. You will see how HCA's coaching tools and the GREAT coaching process are seamlessly woven into a client session as well as having the opportunity to pose your questions about the process and outcomes.
